I think I might be done.

issue #56:
Christmas Blues

All month long, Reader, I’ve been hearing a whispered mantra at the edges of my consciousness:

“I think I might be done.”

I heard it last week when I was vacuuming the apartment instead of inviting you to my birthday workshop.

I heard it the other day, layering caramelized onions into the lasagna.

I hear it when I go for walks, when I linger in the shower too long, as I ponder the year to come. Its soft drumbeat thumping out the rhythm of my days.

And in its quietude, its unintrusiveness, lies an undeniable power. It does not need to shout to be heard; it doesn’t even need me to pay attention.

I think I might be done.

Done playing the algorithm game.
Done with Instagram.
Done being a copywriter.
Done pushing. Done fighting.
Done pretending.

I don’t know what it means just yet—if I’m “done,” what will I do?— but now’s as good a time as any to tell you that yes, I will be transitioning off of Instagram in the coming months and reimagining my entire content ecosystem.

Because at the very least, I *know* I’m done with that.

If you’ve been here awhile and you like what you read, you’ll still have that. If you’re new to my list and just getting to know me, hi! I’m cool and I definitely have my shit together!

In any event, it’s all going to be very gradual and as smooth as can be, and if you’re extra sharp, you might pick up on some small, subtle changes here and there.

It’s gonna be good. And to be honest, I’m kind of loving this return to long-form content. It’s reminding me of the very first blog I started in 2010 to document my relocation from Boston, MA, to Asheville, NC. It was called The Girl out of Boston. Get it?

Some interesting things this week:

For my birthday, I’m hosting a pay-what-you-can writing workshop, where we’ll dig into the specific craft elements that make a good bio, and then write and workshop your bio in real time. Join me! December 29, 3pm Eastern.

Someone sent me this beautifully written Instagram carousel that sums up all the reasons I’ll be moving away from the Meta-verse in 2026.

My husband turned me on to this gorgeous young couple from Luxembourg who do live DJ sets in their sunny apartment while they cook the slowest meal you can possibly imagine. This is what the internet should be.

My free writing prompt, Anarchy on The Blank Page, is available as part of The Coach’s Glow Up with Dallas Travers. Four stupid and silly writing prompts I use to get the willies out and loosen things up. The bundle is free to sign up for, and the only mailing lists you’ll end up on are Dallas’ and whoever’s freebie you decide to check out.

A few others that piqued my interest:

  • How to Launch an Interview-Style Podcast Podcasts are so hot right now!
  • The CEO’s SEO Scorecard So you can stop guessing if your website works and start showing up where your customers are searching
  • From Cold to Sold Helps you figure out what moves the needle vs. what's just making you feel busy
  • +36 more free resources…covering everything from finances to creative to tech, and all the things in between.

What if My Favorite Murder counts as “supporting my business goals?” How does that sexy Euro couple and their infuriatingly slow cooking make me better at what I do?

These are the kinds of questions we get to explore in the Winter Rebellion with my awesome and badass friend Mary Williams.

It literally costs you nothing AND you’ll win prizes—like a 2-hour editing session with yours truly, or a spot in Eunice Brownlee’s Mic-Ready Pitch Pack, or The Nervous System Breakthrough Bundle from Micah Freeman.

There’s only two weeks left in December! The rebellion is happening without you!
